This is our newest crab combo. You get 4 pounds of each of the wild Bearing Sea crabs. The strong King Crab, the delicate Bairdi or Queen Crab and the sweet Dungeness Crab. All are pre-cooked. Just warm up and serve! Bairdi crab or Chionoecetes bairdi is a species of crab known alternatively as Tanner Crab. It is found in the Bering Sea. The crab suffered from overfishing from 1996 until 2006, when restrictions on their harvest were put in place. Bairdi Crab is fished during the winter and is in season now. Bairdi crab has a sweeter, succulent flavor, and is less “fishy” than Opilio, and is the preferred crab of the Alaskan fishermen recently popularized by the hit T.V. show “Deadliest Catch”. The Bairdi is about twice the size of Opilio crab and hence has more meat and less shell. Most of the Alaskan Bairdi Crab is sold to Japan. Bairdi is the very large species retaled to Opilio .Bairdi Crab is the Giant Alaskan Snow Crab. Bairdi was is not well know in the local US markets as there has been strict fishing regulations until 2006 that prevented Bardi Crab fishing. Bairdi Crab likes the shallow water of the Aleutians and Bering Sea.
